Why OTP Verification on Mobile Number is Not Yet Supported in Wix Studio (and What to Expect Next)

As websites continue moving toward stronger security and seamless user experiences, OTP (One-Time Password) verification via mobile number has become a highly demanded authentication feature.

Businesses want to ensure that users signing up, booking services, or completing online purchases are verified instantly through their phone numbers.

However, if you are currently using Wix Studio, you may notice that mobile-based OTP verification is not yet available across several important modules.

Many customers ask us about enabling this feature, especially for membership-based or service-oriented websites.

Where OTP Verification is Currently Not Supported in Wix

At the moment, Wix does not support SMS OTP verification for the following modules:

• Wix Bookings

• Wix Ecommerce

• Wix Forum

• Wix Community & Member’s Area

• Wix Events

• New User Registration for Wix Studio Websites

This means users cannot validate their phone numbers through OTP during sign-ups, checkouts, event registrations, or forum participation.

Why Isn’t It Available Yet?

Wix platforms maintain tight security control over backend systems to ensure performance, privacy, and standardization. Because of this, deep-level authentication customization—like integrating external OTP services—is not currently open to developers.

Custom scripts or third-party gateways cannot be plugged into core user authentication, so implementing OTP manually isn’t possible at the moment.

The Good News

Wix has officially announced that they are actively working on enabling OTP and SMS-based authentication in future releases. Once the feature is launched, it will greatly enhance security and user trust across all modules.
