When it comes to managing a website, many users get confused about the difference between domain renewal, hosting renewal, and email services. These services are often purchased from different providers, and renewing the wrong one can lead to unnecessary expenses or service interruptions.
1. Renew Your Domain with Your Domain Provider
Your domain name (example: yourwebsite.com) is registered with a domain provider such as:
GoDaddy
Namecheap
BigRock
Google Domains
Any other registrar
To keep your website name active, you must renew the domain directly from the provider where you originally purchased it.
✔ What you need to renew with domain provider:
Domain name
Domain privacy (optional)
✖ What you DO NOT need to renew with domain provider:
Hosting (if purchased earlier but no longer used)
Your domain provider handles only the domain registration. They are the only ones who can confirm:
Expiry date
Renewal status
Ownership details
2. You Do NOT Need to Renew Hosting With the Domain Provider
If you previously purchased hosting from your domain provider (such as GoDaddy hosting, cPanel hosting, etc.), you do not need to renew it anymore.
Why?
👉 Your website is currently hosted through Wix datacenters, which we manage entirely.
This means:
Website speed
Uptime
Server maintenance
Website backups
Security updates
All are handled by us through Wix infrastructure.
You no longer rely on your old hosting account, so continuing to renew hosting with your domain provider is unnecessary and an avoidable cost.
3. What About Your Email Services?
This is where many users get confused.
If your business uses custom domain emails like info@yourdomain.com, you must confirm where your email service is hosted.
✔ If your email was part of your old hosting:
You need to double-check with your domain provider, because:
Some email accounts stop working if hosting expires
Some providers tie emails to hosting plans
Some offer standalone email (but you must confirm)
✔ If your email is hosted elsewhere:
Your email may be running on:
Google Workspace
Microsoft 365
Zoho Mail
Another dedicated email provider
In that case, hosting renewal with the domain provider does not affect your email.
4. Summary — Who Handles What?
Service | Who to Contact | Notes |
Domain renewal | Your domain provider | Must be renewed to keep your website name active |
Website hosting | Us (Managed via Wix Datacenters) | Do NOT renew hosting with old provider |
Email accounts | Depends on your email provider | Confirm with domain provider if emails were tied to old hosting |
5. Conclusion
To avoid downtime, confusion, or extra costs:
Renew only your domain with the domain registrar
Do not renew old hosting, as your website is already hosted with us
Verify your email setup if it was tied to hosting—your domain provider can confirm this
